Migration movements around the world have significantly increased in recent years. According to data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), approximately 110 million people were displaced globally in 2023. These individuals were forced to leave their homes due to reasons such as wars, conflicts, natural disasters, and economic hardships.

During these migration processes, serious dangers exist, particularly in migration by sea. According to IOM data from 2018, the number of people who lost their lives while migrating globally was 4,476. A large portion of these deaths occurred along the Mediterranean route.

These figures highlight the significant challenges and dangers that migrants face. Raising awareness about migrant security and rights and providing support is a shared responsibility of the international community.

Why We Are Here

Due to the immense challenges and dangers that refugees face in their journey, it has become more important than ever for us to be their voice. These individuals are not just statistics; they are human beings seeking safety, dignity, and hope. The numbers tell a tragic story, but the real story lies in the experiences and struggles of each refugee.

This is why Beyond Borders Refuge was established — to amplify the voices of refugees, raise awareness about their rights, and offer support. We aim to break down the barriers of misunderstanding and neglect, and instead foster a global community that stands in solidarity with those who are displaced. By coming together, we can work towards creating a world where every refugee is heard, valued, and given the opportunity to rebuild their life with hope.

Refugee Integration: Overcoming Challenges Together

Every year, millions of refugees embark on dangerous and uncertain journeys, fleeing conflict, persecution, and hardship in search of safety. However, arriving in a new country is not the end of their struggles—it marks the beginning of yet another challenging journey: integration into society. Adjusting to a new culture, securing employment, accessing education, and rebuilding a sense of belonging can be overwhelming, yet it is a crucial step toward a stable and dignified life.

The Challenges of Integration

🔹 Language Barriers: Without proficiency in the local language, refugees often struggle to communicate, find jobs, or navigate essential services, making integration a slow and difficult process.

🔹 Employment Difficulties: Many refugees face legal restrictions, discrimination, and unrecognized qualifications, which limit their access to stable and fair employment opportunities.

🔹 Access to Education: Children and young refugees experience long-term disruptions in their education due to financial difficulties, bureaucratic challenges, and language barriers.

🔹 Housing and Social Acceptance: Finding safe and affordable housing is difficult, and social stigma or xenophobia can create additional obstacles, preventing refugees from feeling truly welcomed.

🔹 Legal and Bureaucratic Hurdles: Navigating residency, work permits, and citizenship processes can take years, leaving refugees in a state of uncertainty and vulnerability.
